THE CONSTITUTION

OF

PLAY OR DIE

The Council of Fun Masters

Ordained and established by the founding Fun Masters

PREAMBLE

We, the Fun Masters of the Council of Fun Masters, known as Play or Die, in order to preserve the spirit of gaming, uphold the sacred duty of play, and ensure that no game goes unjudged, do hereby ordain and establish this Constitution as the supreme governing document of our Council.

Let it be known that to bear the title of Fun Master is both a privilege and a burden — for those who cease to play shall cease to sit among us.

ARTICLE I — DEFINITIONS AND FOUNDATIONAL PRINCIPLES

Section 1 — The Council of Fun Masters

Play or Die is the official name of the Council of Fun Masters (hereinafter referred to as “the Council”). The Council is a democratic body in which all sitting Fun Masters are equal in voice, vote, and standing.

Section 2 — The Fun Master

A Fun Master is any individual who has been admitted to the Council through the Rites of Entry defined in Article II and who maintains their seat through continued fulfillment of the obligations defined in Article III.

Section 3 — The Definition of “Play”

Throughout this Constitution, the word “Play” shall be defined as follows:

To engage with a game for a minimum duration of one (1) hour of genuine, good-faith gameplay.

No Fun Master shall be compelled to play beyond the minimum hour. However, it is highly encouraged that a Fun Master continue playing until they either:

  • (a) “Get the game” — meaning they have grasped its core mechanics, tone, and experience, or
  • (b) “Finish the story” — meaning they have completed the primary narrative or campaign.

This encouragement shall carry greater weight when other members of the Council have expressly urged the Fun Master to continue.

Section 4 — The Queue

A Queue shall be defined as an ordered list of games, assembled by the Council, wherein each sitting Fun Master contributes exactly one (1) game suggestion. Every Fun Master shall be obligated to Play every game in the Queue until the Queue is exhausted. Each game in the Queue shall be allotted a period of two (2) weeks, unless the Council votes to Play early as defined in Article III, Section 2.

ARTICLE II — ADMISSION TO THE COUNCIL

Section 1 — The Rites of Entry

No individual shall be recognized as a Fun Master until they have completed one of the following paths:

Path A — The Trial of Inscryption

The aspirant shall play and fully complete the game known as Inscryption. Partial completion shall not suffice. The aspirant must see the game through to its ultimate conclusion.

Path B — The Trial of the Queue

The aspirant shall Play (as defined in Article I, Section 3) every game in one (1) full Queue as determined by the sitting Council at the time of the aspirant’s candidacy.

Section 2 — The Review of Admission

Upon completion of either Path A or Path B, the aspirant must deliver a verbal or written review of their experience. The review must be evaluated and approved by at least one (1) sitting Fun Master. Upon approval, the aspirant shall be immediately granted the title of Fun Master and shall take their seat on the Council with full rights and obligations.

Section 3 — Denial of Entry

Should no sitting Fun Master approve the aspirant’s review, the aspirant may reattempt the review process at a later date. The Council is encouraged — but not obligated — to provide constructive feedback.

ARTICLE III — THE CYCLE OF PLAY

Section 1 — The Perpetual Obligation

To retain their seat on the Council, each Fun Master must Play every game suggested within the Queue. This obligation is perpetual — it does not expire, pause, or diminish for as long as the Fun Master holds their title.

Section 2 — Commencement of a New Game

Each game in the Queue shall be allotted a standard period of two (2) weeks. The Council is encouraged to vote on starting the next game one (1) week into the current cycle. A simple majority vote (50%) of all sitting Fun Masters is required to commence a game early.

Section 3 — The Sacred Duty of Rating

Upon Playing any game, each Fun Master must submit the following:

  • (a) A written review of the game, consisting of a minimum of three (3) words, and
  • (b) A numerical score on a scale of 1 to 10.

Failure to submit a review and rating shall be considered a violation of this Constitution and shall carry the same consequences as failure to Play.

ARTICLE IV — EXCOMMUNICATION

Section 1 — Grounds for Excommunication

A Fun Master shall face excommunication proceedings if they fail to fulfill their obligation to Play within the allotted period, or if they fail to submit the required review and rating as defined in Article III, Section 3.

Section 2 — The Excommunication Vote

Excommunication shall not be automatic. A motion for excommunication must be brought before the Council and approved by a simple majority vote (50%) of all sitting Fun Masters. The accused Fun Master shall not vote on the matter of their own excommunication.

Section 3 — Effects of Excommunication

Upon excommunication, the individual shall:

  • (a) Lose their seat on the Council and all voting rights,
  • (b) Be removed from active participation in Council proceedings, and
  • (c) Retain the ability to Play, review, and rate games as part of the Resurrection Process defined in Article V.

Section 4 — The Mark of Excommunication

The excommunicated individual shall carry a permanent historical title denoting their excommunication. This mark shall remain on their record for all time, regardless of future reinstatement. History shall not be erased.

ARTICLE V — RESURRECTION

Section 1 — The Path of Resurrection

Resurrection is the process by which an excommunicated individual may reclaim their seat on the Council. Resurrection is automatic and requires no vote, provided the following conditions are met in full.

Section 2 — Conditions for Resurrection

The excommunicated individual must:

  • (a) Continue to Play every game in the current Queue without exception,
  • (b) Submit a written review (minimum three words) and a numerical score (1–10) for every game in the Queue, and
  • (c) Complete these obligations for the entirety of one (1) full Queue without interruption.

Section 3 — Automatic Reinstatement

Upon successful completion of all conditions in Section 2, the excommunicated individual shall be automatically reinstated as a Fun Master with full rights, privileges, and obligations. No vote of the Council is required.

Section 4 — Failure of Resurrection

Should the excommunicated individual fail to meet any condition during the Resurrection period — including failure to Play, failure to review, or failure to rate — they shall remain excommunicated and may face Execution proceedings as defined in Article VI.

ARTICLE VI — EXECUTION

Section 1 — Grounds for Execution

If an excommunicated individual fails the Resurrection Process as defined in Article V, or is excommunicated a second time following a prior Resurrection, the Council may initiate Execution proceedings.

Section 2 — The Execution Vote

Execution shall require a simple majority vote (50%) of all sitting Fun Masters. The accused shall not vote on the matter of their own Execution.

Section 3 — Effects of Execution

Execution shall constitute a permanent ban from the Council. The executed individual shall:

  • (a) Be permanently stripped of the title of Fun Master,
  • (b) Have their account on the Play or Die website suspended — they may no longer rate, review, or interact with the platform, and
  • (c) Be barred from all activities of the Council indefinitely.

Section 4 — The Mark of Execution

The executed individual shall carry a permanent historical title denoting their execution. This mark shall remain on their record for all time, regardless of any future appeal. History shall not be erased.

ARTICLE VII — THE RIGHT OF APPEAL

Section 1 — The Right to Appeal

Even in the face of Execution, no soul shall be denied the right to plead their case. An executed individual may file a formal appeal to return to the Council.

Section 2 — The Appeal Process

The appellant must submit a formal written statement to the Council declaring their intent to return and their commitment to uphold this Constitution.

Section 3 — The Appeal Vote

The appeal shall be decided by a simple majority vote (50%) of all sitting Fun Masters. If the vote passes, the executed individual shall be reinstated as a Fun Master with full rights and obligations.

Section 4 — Permanent Historical Record

Even upon successful appeal, the Marks of Excommunication and Execution as defined in Articles IV and VI shall never be removed. A reinstated member carries their history with them.

ARTICLE VIII — AMENDMENTS

Section 1 — The Living Document

This Constitution is a living document. Any Fun Master may propose an amendment at any time by drafting the proposed change and presenting it to the Council.

Section 2 — Ratification

An amendment shall be ratified upon receiving a simple majority vote (50%) of all sitting Fun Masters. Upon ratification, the amendment shall be incorporated into this Constitution and shall carry the full force of law.

ARTICLE IX — FINAL PROVISIONS

Section 1 — Supremacy Clause

This Constitution shall be the supreme governing document of Play or Die. No rule, agreement, or custom shall override any provision contained herein unless adopted as a formal amendment under Article VIII.

Section 2 — Good Faith Clause

All Fun Masters are expected to act in good faith, to Play with an open mind, and to remember that the purpose of this Council is, above all, fun. Any member found to be acting in deliberate bad faith — including but not limited to intentionally sabotaging gameplay, submitting fraudulent reviews, or idling through the minimum hour — may be subject to proceedings under Article IV.
